SaluSpa E02 Error: What It Means and the Fix Order

Last updated: October 2026 · Applies to Bestway SaluSpa, Lay-Z-Spa, and Coleman SaluSpa (all Bestway pump units)

E02 is the code that fills inflatable-spa forums, and it's easy to see why: it stops the pump, kills the heat, and comes back after every reset like it owns the place. But E02 is not a death sentence for your pump. It's a specific statement — after the filter or heat function starts, the pump's flow sensors detect no water flow — and Bestway's own manual gives a test sequence that splits its causes cleanly. Most of the time, the cause is a dirty filter cartridge and the fix is free.

The three causes, in order of likelihood

  1. Dirty filter cartridges. The overwhelming favorite. Inflatable spas filter all their water through small cartridges that load up fast, and Bestway's maintenance guidance is stricter than most owners realize: check and clean them daily in use, replace them when they stay soiled.
  2. A failed pump — usually the impeller. On high-hour pumps the impeller wears or jams, and the pump runs without moving water.
  3. Failed flow sensors — water flows fine, but the sensors don't register it, so the pump reports E02 anyway.

Plus two impostors to rule out before all three: stopper caps left on the inside ports after setup or cleaning (a cap blocks the pump completely — it's in Bestway's manual for a reason), and water level too low for the pump to draw.

Bestway's split test — the whole diagnosis in two moves

Move 1: The filter-out test

Take the filter set out of the spa and run the filter or heat function.

Move 2: Hand at the outlet

While the system runs (before E02 stops it), hold your hand in front of the outlet pipe inside the spa.

Two E02 traps to avoid

Don't run the spa unfiltered beyond the test itself — debris drawn into the pump turns a filter problem into an impeller problem. And check the coupling washers if E02 appeared after a pump removal: Bestway's aftersales guide names perished washers inside the pump couplings as a flow-killer owners almost never suspect. Flattened or cracked washers starve the pump exactly like a clogged filter does.

When it really is the pump

Inflatable owners have no local repair network — the pump unit is the replaceable part, and Bestway support is the channel. Before you pay for anything, check your purchase date: pump units fail inside warranty more often than owners expect. When you contact support, lead with the diagnosis, not the code: "E02 persists with the filter set removed; water flows at the outlet" (or "no water flows") moves you past the scripted first round, because you've already done the test they'd walk you through.

And run the replace math honestly before buying parts out of warranty: a whole new inflatable spa runs roughly $400–790 at big-box stores, so a pump unit priced near that line deserves a hard look.
